Understanding Momentum (RSI)
RSI-based momentum measures whether an asset is overbought or oversold — a classic contrarian indicator for value investors.
What is RSI Momentum?
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) measures the speed and magnitude of price changes on a 0-100 scale. Above 70 is considered overbought, below 30 oversold. We use 30-day price change as a momentum proxy.
Contrarian Value Signal
For value investors, overbought conditions (big pumps) reduce the score — you may be buying at the top. Oversold conditions (big drops) increase the score — you may be getting a discount on fundamentally sound assets.
How We Use It
Momentum is weighted at 7% in our Value Score. A 30-day price drop of 30%+ scores highest (contrarian buy signal), while a 30%+ pump scores lowest (potential overvaluation).
