HODL
Definition
HODL is crypto slang for 'hold on for dear life' — a long-term investment strategy of buying and holding crypto regardless of price volatility. The term originated from a 2013 Bitcoin forum typo of 'hold' and became the unofficial mantra of long-term Bitcoin investors. HODLers believe in the long-term value of crypto and ignore short-term price swings. Opposite of trading or active speculation.

Understanding HODL is essential for anyone investing in cryptocurrencies or working with blockchain technology. This concept directly influences how projects are valued, how markets behave, and what risks and opportunities exist for investors.
